Current Disaster Response

 

January 11, 2013-- USDA Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director James B. Douglass announced that 207 counties in Texas were declared a disaster on January 9, 2013, due to drought and heat using the new, streamlined Secretarial Disaster Designation process. Under this designation, producers with operations in any of the 157 primary disaster counties or 50 contiguous disaster counties are eligible to apply for low interest emergency loans. 

 

 

 

 

USDA includes 157 Texas counties as disaster areas

Nearly two-thirds of the state's 254 counties have been declared federal primary natural disaster areas from drought and heat in a step toward providing help.

One of the worst droughts since the Dust Bowl is impacting Texas and over 62% of the United States.  NVOAD is taking action and has asked our Texas VOAD President and our TDEM VAL to participate in a National Taskforce.

North Texas Hail Storm June 13 2012The worst hail storm in the North Texas and Dallas area since April 2003 occurred June 13, 2012. SPOT REPORT:  

Texas Severe Storms and Tornado Activity

 

DATE AND TIME OF OCCURRENCE: 

Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 1240 CDT

 

INCIDENT SUMMARY: 


This Spot Report summarizes information received regarding damage impacts from the Texas severe storms and tornado activity:

·  City of Arlington: Seven (7) injuries reported (six minor and one critical)


·  City of Dallas: 40 houses severely damaged


·  City of Forney: Three (3) injuries reported; 20 homes in the Diamond Creek subdivision were damaged


·  Kaufman County: 20 homes destroyed; minor injuries reported


·  City of Lancaster:

o    Preliminary damage reports/local assessments indicate 150 homes destroyed; 100 homes with moderate damage


o    Ten (10) injuries reported (two severe)


o    Southern Baptist Texas Convention (SBTC) Kitchen is set up in Lancaster to provide feeding and coordinating with HEB (grocery store) and USDA.


The below summarizes information received from FEMA Region 6 Mass Care via Red Cross (state program manager):

 

·   Operational emphasis is on Service Delivery to clients; feeding, bulk distribution, disaster health and mental health services, and sheltering.

 

·   Southern Baptists have 1 kitchen open at the Lancaster shelter. From that shelter they are providing mobile feeding via the 9 ERV's assigned to the operation.

 

·   Disaster Health Services (Medical personnel) from Fort Worth will be visiting the shelters and at emergency aid stations

 

·   Operation will have sufficient bulk supplies in the pipeline to meet needs through the weekend.

ACTIONS/

FOLLOW UP: 

Region 6 Regional Administrator is in contact with State Directors.


Region 6 RRCC remains at Level 3 activation.  Hours of Operation are now 0700 to 1900 CDT.


IMAT 1 is co-located with the State of Texas leadership in San Antonio.


IMAT Team 2 is on standby to deploy if requested.

Four (4) IA and Four (4) PA PDA teams, including Mitigation and External Affairs personnel, have been identified, and will be deployed upon request from the States.

National Weather Service Fort Worth will issue a Public Information Statement this evening with preliminary information regarding damage assessments.
